I don’t know about you, but I am already dreaming about my summer. Don’t get me wrong I am actually sad that I will no longer have this group of students in 29 school days. They have been a great group and I am determined to finish well.

Back to summer….

Toes in the sand. The roar of waves. Peace.

Just like many of you guys, I plan to rest this summer and spend time with family that was missed during the school year.

Let’s go ahead and debunk the notion that teachers have it good during the summer and that we do nothing. Many teachers will spend the summer working 2nd jobs and or preparing for a new school year.

I am a firm believer that our summers as teachers should be spent with rest and finding ways to grow as better teachers. If I go ahead and start thinking towards things that I want to accomplish during the summer months, I can set attainable goals and not be overwhelmed the last two weeks of summer.

Here is a list of things that will be on my to-do list this summer.

1.I am already a fairly organized teacher. Everything in my classroom has a home and a container. I admit, I am a bit obsessed. However, I plan to work on organizing my read aloud books. I am sure there will be a few DIY projects along the way.  Here are a few ideas I have pinned so far. I plan to share pics when I finish.

You can follow my progress on Pinterest.

2. I will work on Professional Development. This school year our school is revising our ELA curriculum. So, I will spend a good bit of my summer reading and preparing for the new school year. What professional development books do you plan to read this summer?

3. I will attend a conference. I think attending summer conferences are a great way to grow and learn as a teacher. There is one conference that I believe stands out, if you are a pre-school, K, or 1st grade teacher-that is Frog Street Splash 2016. I am pretty PUMPED about this conference. I am excited about the AMAZING speakers that will be there. Cause who doesn’t love Steve Spangler?

Do you want to hang out with me at the conference? I want to hang out with you! I will be an ambassador for Frog Street Splash 2016. We can grab a bowl of ice cream together. 😉 And dance the night away at the after party. Seriously, you should register like right now.

4. It is important for me to grow in my walk with the Lord this summer. I believe time in God’s word will nourish my heart and revive me! I plan to lead a Bible study for teachers this summer. We are going to do this VBS style… Virtual Bible Study. This will be an online weekly Bible study with teachers just like you. Want to join us? You can join my Facebook group here. More information about the Bible study will be released soon.

I usually teach summer school, but our district didn’t offer it this summer. I did tutor one little girl for a week to get her up to speed for an entrance test . Since I’m not a housekeeper, one good cleaning and a little touch up weekly is all I need. Now I’m bored. I went and got my key yesterday and worked in my classroom. But…I am spending as much time as I can holding and hugging my 5 month old grandson.

I love summer but it is so busy! I do 5 weeks of summer school, spend extra time with my grandkids and family, plan for the next year, lots of reading and a mini vacation or two and then it is time for school once again!
